Fredericia Maskinmesterskole modtager donation fra Google til simulator

Fredericia Maskinmesterskole modtager over 600.000 kr. i støtte fra Google til videreudvikling af uddannelse i drift af datacentre.


Fredericia Maskinmesterskole (FMS) har modtaget 100.000 USD (svarende til over 600.000 kr.) i fondsmidler fra Google, som en del af deres community grant, til videreudvikling af skolens kontrolrums datacenter simulator. Bevillingen markerer anden runde af støtte fra Google og gør det muligt at etablere en simulator for et full mission datacenter set-up.

I første fase af projektet blev datacentrets grundlæggende ramme etableret med fokus på de elektriske systemer. Dette har givet et solidt fundament, men samtidig sat en naturlig grænse for hvilke undervisningsscenarier, der kunne afvikles.
Der har allerede været afholdt flere kurser, hvor det nye udstyr har været brugt. På kurset trænes medarbejdere i at overvåge kritisk infrastruktur og anlæg i kontrolrum i bl.a. datacentre. Kurset får gode evalueringer, men der er behov for at udvikle det nuværende set-up yderligere.

Med de nye midler kan simulatoren udvides til at omfatte alle systemer i et kritisk datacenter, herunder køleanlæg og tilhørende mekaniske tjenester. Samtidig udvikles et udvidet alarmbibliotek og en event editor, der gør det muligt at bygge hændelsesforløb. Dermed kan de studerende fremover træne i mere realistiske og varierede scenarier, møde flere typer udfordringer og få et større læringsudbytte. De vil dermed blive endnu bedre rustet til at håndtere de udfordringer, de vil møde ude i erhvervet.

Rektor Jens Færgemand er begejstret for støtten fra Google. ”Det er en stor anerkendelse, at Google igen vælger at støtte vores arbejde, og samtidig er det fantastisk at bidrage til udviklingen af et nyt brancheområde. Det er svært at opbygge ny viden på et område i så hastig vækst, men takket være vores tætte samarbejde med aftagere kan vi tilrettelægge undervisningen, så den matcher de kompetencer, erhvervslivet efterspørger."

Fredericia Maskinmesterskoles kommende full mission datacenter simulator set-up bliver det første af sin slags på en uddannelsesinstitution og er et afgørende skridt i arbejdet med at uddanne kvalificeret arbejdskraft til datacenterindustrien. Projektets anden fase forventes at være i drift i løbet af foråret 2026 og vil indgå som en central del af undervisningen for skolens maskinmesterstuderende samt i efter- og videreuddannelsesforløb rettet mod datacenterindustrien.

Fredericia College of Marine and Technical Engineering receives more than DKK 600,000 in support from Google for the further development of training in the operation of data centres.


Fredericia School of Marine and Technical Engineering (FMS) has received USD 100,000 (equivalent to more than DKK 600,000) in funding from Google as part of a community grant for the further development of the school's data centre control room simulator. The grant marks the second round of support from Google and makes it possible to establish a simulator for a full immersion mission data center set-up.

In the first phase of the project, the basic framework of the data center was established with a focus on the electrical systems. This has provided a solid foundation, but at the same time set a natural limit for which teaching scenarios could be carried out.

Several courses have already been held where the new equipment has been used. On the course, employees are trained to monitor critical infrastructure and facilities in control rooms in e.g. data centers. The course has received good evaluations, but there is a need to develop the current set-up further.

With the new funds, the simulator can be expanded to include all systems of a critical data center, including cooling plant and associated mechanical services. At the same time, an extended alarm list and an event editor are being developed that makes it possible to build incident sequences. In the future, students will be able to train in more realistic and varied scenarios, meet more types of challenges and achieve greater learning outcomes. They will thus be even better equipped to handle the challenges they will face in the industry.

Principal Jens Færgemand is excited about the support from Google. "It is a great recognition that Google has once again chosen to support our work, and at the same time, it is fantastic to contribute to the development of a new industry area. It is difficult to build up new knowledge in an area that is growing so rapidly, but thanks to our close collaboration with employers, we can organise the teaching so that it matches the skills that the business community demands."

Fredericia College of Marine and Technical Engineering's upcoming full mission data center simulator set-up will be the first of its kind at an educational institution and is a crucial step in the work of educating qualified labor for the data center industry. The second phase of the project is expected to be operational during the spring of 2026 and will be a central part of the teaching for the school's marine engineering students as well as in continuing and further education courses aimed at the data center industry.
